Happiness Is

This painting was a joy to produce! I was approached by an older couple who wanted a painting in memory of their daughter. They knew they wanted flowers and a cat. And yellow and red.

I was intrigued because I'd never painted a scene with a cat, even though I have four! After a few ideas and emails, we settled on the study above.

Along the way my couple came out to the studio to see the progress. Emails are helpful, but not as much fun as real life. Especially if you're close enough to stop by.

A few adjustments were made after each visit, according to their desires. We added a few more flowers, yellow in particular. We lightened up the cast shadow. And then we added a book, because the other thing their daughter had loved was reading.

I am very happy with the result. The book really finishes the painting.

The best thing about the whole experience was meeting this lovely couple!
