The Commission Process

The Homestead, 12" by 24" oil on canvas

Hi!

I'm so glad you're considering a commission of your own! Read on to learn the process I follow.

First, you and I discuss your idea. I'll ask you as many questions as needed so that I'm sure I have a good idea of what you're desiring.

Before we go on we'll discuss price and timeline. I ask for fifty percent down at the start with the remainder due at the completion of the painting.

Framing is not included in the price. However, we can discuss framing as an additional item.

After that I will make a few sketches, usually three to begin with. I'll email you the sketches and you let me know if I'm on the right track. If there are things you like, but others you don't, you'll tell me about that. This could happen a few times.

Once the sketched idea is clear, I'll do a couple of color studies for your approval. You'll receive these in an email.

You give me your feedback and once we've decided on the final color study, I will begin the painting.

You'll receive two progress photos during the painting time. When the painting is finished I'll email you a photo for final approval.

After that, I'll let the painting cure and we'll arrange for shipping or delivery if you're local.

Thanks so much for taking the time to learn about the commission process. Please do reach out to me with any questions! I'd love to answer them for you.
