Apples of Gold in Settings of Silver
It's here! Day 30! I'm off to teach a workshop, with pics to follow (hopefully). Happy painting!

Day 30

Here's the next to the last painting! I can hardly believe how quickly this month has flown by!

Day 29

I think this little Longhorn calf should be named "Snub Nose". He sure does have a round, up turned little nose!

Day 28

Some sunny Sunflowers for a sunny Tuesday! It will be back to cows tomorrow. They do seem to steal the show!

Day 27

Another from up on Boxelder Road and creek. I stood in the middle of the creek to paint this - something I've always wanted to do!

Day 25

Day 25 is a change from the cows and calves. This is a little scene up on Boxelder Road. There's a canyon nearby but my attempt to paint it was pretty bad! I turned around and did this instead.
I can hardly believe there's only one week to go! I'm going to try to continue with the Bovine theme. We'll see how it goes. Here's today's painting.

Day 23

I'm headed up to my favorite place in the world to paint, today! Next week I'll be holding an outdoor painting workshop there. I'm hoping for beautiful fall colors to be on display for us!
Here's Day 22 of the challenge. I've fallen behind on posting them here, but they're all on my website!

Day 16

I've had the reference photo for this cow for years. It was taken on a road named Windy Ridge where the road dips down into a valley before leveling out to some fields of hay. I can usually find a bunch of cows grazing in that area, and it's a beautiful drive too!
Day 14

My husband informed me last night that this kind of cow is called a "brocco face". I'm not sure why he hasn't told me that before, but at least now I know. Whatever it's called, I think it's got a lovely face!

Day 9

My favorite colors on cows! This one looks slightly perplexed! Maybe he was wondering why I was taking his picture!

Day 8

I thought I'd show you a couple of steps that I took in the painting of this guy.

The initial block in. Only light and shadow shapes at this point.

A bit of refining, showing the large brush I use all the
way through until I get to the very end.
Just a little insight into my process. Happy painting!
Day 7 is the last rooster for a while. It's time to work on something else. I like these challenges because it's a great opportunity to explore different subjects or techniques or sizes, or anything else you've been thinking about trying.

Day 6

This is not our rooster, but he sure is a beauty! Our rooster is not nearly so colorful! And he crows at all hours of the day and night!
Day 5 Good Morning!

Having chickens and roosters around makes for good painting material! This guy looks so happy to be up and about, he seems to be telling everyone "Good Morning!"

Day 4 Hollyhocks Too
6x6 oil on panel
This is a closer up view of the hollyhocks from yesterday. One of the fun things about 30 in 30 is doing the same thing in different ways!
Our hollyhocks weren't quite as wonderful as some years, but there were enough to paint!

I had to begin this challenge with a couple of cows, of course! There will be a mix of other subjects as the month goes on. It's always interesting to me to see the direction my painting takes during one of these challenges! It's well worth the effort, especially at this time, since I've been devoting so much time to getting our "new" place habitable! Now, it's back to painting pictures, not walls!

Day 2,6x6, oil on panel
It's Day 1 and I am ready to go! The move downstairs is complete, although there may be a few things I'll have to hunt for . . .
