Dear Subscriber
How are you? I hope you're doing well. I'm so glad it's Spring! The arrival of Red Wing Blackbirds and meadowlarks are our measure of Spring around here.
They usually show up mid-March, but this year it wasn't that early. We heard the first Red Wing Blackbirds on Friday and Meadowlarks on Saturday. Even the Peepers were heard before the birds!
The last few days have been in the 70's and beautiful. It has had me thinking of summer.
The painting course I've been taking will be holding workshops this summer and I'll be heading to one in July. I'll be in Victor, Idaho, painting and learning.
I have a little camper rented to stay in and I'm already planning what to bring. I'll be painting outside so you can bet I'll be getting reacquainted with that long before the workshop.
In the meantime, I've been applying some of the things I've been learning to a larger painting, done from the last, or next to last, study from February.
I'm pretty happy with the finished painting! I love the softness of the sagebrush going off in the distance and the contrast between that and the dark cattle and lacy cedar.
Can you smell the dust and sagebrush?
The scene is from a couple of years ago when I was driving along some dirt roads between here and Douglas, Wyoming. I have to do that at least once a summer.

This is from the same area as Spring Canyon Bunch. The smell of warm sagebrush and dust came right back as I was painting this. It was great, especially on the snowy days I was painting!
I'm woking on more like this from my February studies. I hope I have a couple to show you next time.
Until then, take care and enjoy Spring, Ginny
