Good morning!
How are you? Can you believe we've made it to March? February has flown by for me. I'm sure its because it has fewer days and because I have been focusing on these studies.
Without further adieu, here they are.
Enter Evening 6x8 Gouache
This is from a sunrise photo I took on a walk last summer. I think it looks more like a sunset. What do you think?
Late Summer Vibe 6x8 Gouache
This one was done from two photo references. One for the landscape and another for the creature.
Lazy Days 6x8 Gouache
You can see, I used the same landscape reference in all of these, and placed different characters in them.
Open Range 6x8 Gouache
Not only did I experiment with different animals, I explored different color in each one. This particular one has a green that is seen in these parts only for about two weeks in June.
Wrong Side of the Fence 6x8 Gouache
More experimenting with ideas here. The landscape photo has a road in it, which I like but wanted to see what would happen without it.
Golden Days 6x8 Gouache
For these last two I used one reference, zeroing in on different aspects and ideas. These might be my favorites from this week.
I've learned so much through this month! One thing I've realized is that I love painting landscapes as much as I love painting cows. The perfect thing is for me to combine them. I don't know why I haven't done more of this, but you can expect to see more in the future.
These last two will probably be my first full size paintings from these studies. I can hardly wait to get started on them.
Are there any from the month that you'd especially like to see in a larger painting, done in oil?
I may also attempt more sunsets and sunrises. I think my study turned out pretty well, and I gained some understanding from doing it. I won't show you the one that will never make it to the public eye! Lots of trial and error.
I'm ready to get back to oil and canvas, but I'll continue my color studies in gouache, now that I've gotten the hang of it.
Thanks so much for coming along on this painting adventure with me!
Until next time, Ginny |
